(2).Help students find out detailed information through careful reading
(3).Help students learn about geography, population, main cities, natural beauty of Canada
(4).Encourage students to express themselves with the language learned in class
學情分析
本節課的教學對象為高中一年級科的學生,他們智力發展趨于成熟,英語學習運用能力較弱。從學生們的學習動機,學習方法,學習心理方面看,他們需要提升自覺性,促進自主化。學生已完成高一英語必修一,二的學習,漸漸習慣高中英語課堂容量大的特點,也適應了我的教法。
重點難點
Get students to figure out the characteristics of Vancouver, Calgary and Thunder Bay
教學過程
Step one: Lead- in and Warming-up
Ask students “Do you like traveling?” to introduce the topic of traveling. Let students guess “What country will I visit next” with the help of three tips ( maple trees, five lakes and 5,500 kms) to lead in the country --- Canada.To get more basic knowledge of Canada, a competition will be held.
Step two While-reading
1. Ask students to look at the title of the passage to think out “What is “The True North” in the passage?”Go through the passage quickly to finish the following task:
? What is the passage mainly about?
It is about a trip of two girls; and it tells us some information about Canada.

2. Read the passage quickly and draw the route of the two girls traveling across Canada.
3. Read the text carefully(para2-para4) and find the main characteristics of three cities .

Step Three After Reading
Ask students to tell “What the True North in the passage is” after reading the passage.
Help students to give a presentation of main cities of Canada.

Enjoy a song about traveling (Take me home, country road)
Step Seven: Homework
Write down your tour guide speech in the exercise book.
